The Edig@s message specifications are developed to support electronic communications between internationally operating companies in the European gas industry. Since 1997, the Edig@s Workgroup, composed of gas industry experts, has been developing message specifications to provide a uniform model in accordance with the specific requirements of the gas market based on the UN/EDIFACT EDI standard. The Edig@s Workgroup is a member of EASEE-gas, the European Association for the Streamlining of Energy Exchange.

| Edig@s Version 4.0 is based on version 3.2 und drives the development further. Within this development process redundant information were suppressed, inconsistencies were adjusted and documentation problems were resolved.

GEFEG provides the individual message types and profiles based on the Edig@s message specifications version 4.0 for message testing. For each of the message specifications a check package is available in the GEFEG.Validation.Portal.
