What do the file names mean?
As sample for the user directory D.12A
  • 'D' means UN/EDIFACT user Directory.
  • '12A' says that this directory was approved and issued as the first release of the UNTDID (United Nations Trade Data Interchange Directory) in the year 2012.
Syntax version 3 service code list directory UNSL.12A
  • 'UNSL' means 'United Nations Service code List'.
  • '12A' says that this directory was approved and issued as the first release of the UNTDID (United Nations Trade Data Interchange Directory) in the year 2012.
Syntax version 4 service code list directory SL40201.TXT
  • 'SL40201' means:

'SL' = Service code List
'4' = Syntax version number
'02' = Syntax release number
'01' = Service code list directory version number

  • 'TXT' means that the file is a text format file.

The updating of the service code list directories maintained by the JWG and published on the JWG web page

(http://www.gefeg.com/jswg),
for example related to the D.12A user directory - will result in following changes to the file name:

  • Syntax version 3 service code list directory

The file name will become: UNSL.12a.

  • Syntax version 4 service code list directory

The last two digits of the version 4 service code list directory version number will be incremented by one. If there had been no changes to the version 4 syntax version number and to the syntax release number, (see below) then the file name will become: SL40201.TXT.

  • Syntax version 4 - version & release number identification

The 1st digit of the file identification ('4') specifies the current syntax version number. This number would only be increased after a specified number of years, should significant changes or enhancements to the syntax be required.

The 2nd & 3rd digits of the file identification ('02') specify the current syntax release number. This number would only be incremented by one in the event of an approved technical corrigendum being issued against the syntax (e.g. 02, 03 etc.).

Users should note that the addition of the syntax release identification capability is part of a first revision to version 4 of the syntax, currently in the process of development for submission as second edition of ISO 9735-1:1998 to ISO.
